Belajar Relative Clause



A relative clause is a subordinate clause which is generally preceded by a relative pronoun like who, which, whom, that, etc. A defining relative clause is essential in a sentence because it qualities the noun in the main clause is some way. While a non-defining relative clause only gives an explanation, so it is not essential to the sentence.
1.      Who: It is refers to a person that used as subject.
Example: The Lady who teaches in political science department is my mentor.
2.      Whom: It is refers to a person that used as an object of the clause
Example: The person whom I spoke last night is my father.
3.      Which/that: is refers to a things or animals
Example: The watch which Ken bought was expensive.
4.      Whose: Possession/ownership
Example: the company whose manager was resigned is in dire straits.
5.      When: for a time (year, month, week, day etc)
Example: I will never forget the day when I meet you.
6.      Where: for a place (Country, district, city, etc)
Example: The house where he stays is old.
7.      Why: for a reasons
Example: I don’t know why he winked.
Example:
The Boy is my brother. He met you yesterday.
 --The boy who met you yesterday is my brother
The man is john. You called him last night
--The man whom you called last night is john
She is waiting for the bus. The bus goes to Salatiga
--She is waiting for the bus that goes to Salatiga
The man is proud. His son is an Engineer
